From playful afternoons to special celebrations, favorite outfits become part of lovely memories. A thoughtful care routine can help keep them looking their best. Start with the instructions on each garment’s care label: different fabrics, trims, and finishes may need different treatment.
Read the care label first
Before washing, check the label for the recommended cleaning method, temperature, drying instructions, and ironing guidance. These instructions take priority over general advice, including the tips below. If the label specifies professional cleaning, do not substitute a home wash.
Prepare before cleaning
Check pockets and separate garments by color and care requirements. Fasten closures where appropriate, and handle bows, lace, embroidery, and other decorative details gently. Do not pull on trims or remove attached decorations unless the garment instructions say to do so.
Choose a suitable washing method
If the label permits washing, follow its instructions for water temperature and cycle. Use a detergent suitable for the fabric and follow the detergent’s dosing directions. Do not assume every outfit can be machine washed, hand washed, soaked, or treated with bleach.
Handle stains with care
Check both the care label and the stain-treatment product instructions before applying anything. Where permitted, test a suitable product on a hidden area first. Avoid vigorous rubbing around delicate fabric or decorations, and do not use a treatment that conflicts with the garment’s instructions.
Dry and iron as directed
Follow the label rather than choosing a drying method by appearance alone. Some pieces may need to dry flat, while others may allow hanging or tumble drying. If ironing is permitted, use the specified setting and avoid direct heat on decorations unless the instructions allow it.
Store ready for the next occasion
Make sure garments are clean and completely dry before storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Fold or hang each piece according to its fabric and construction, avoiding pressure that could crush decorative details.
